The mighty lion has been a symbol of royalty and nobility in England for centuries. Even in American, we used the lion as the ideal icon for those same values until the eagle of freedom took its place. A roaring lion is seen as powerful, courageous, and prestigious. Medieval warriors with great skill who were known for their bravery were nicknamed, “The Lion”, hence the nickname of King Richard, ‘The Lionheart’. This symbol is found throughout England, on shields, in heraldry, on sports team logos, and even often as door knockers. It’s a sign of valor and determination.
